Shared task lists for farms: who's doing what today

Updated

On a farm there's always more to do than daylight to do it in. A shared task list means everyone, whether family, farm hands or a visiting contractor, can see what needs doing today, who's on it and what's been done, without a round of phone calls.

Why a shared list helps on a farm

Set up a farm list

  1. Create one group for the farm and invite the family and regular workers by link or QR code.
  2. Use tags for places and types of work: paddock or shed names, "machinery", "fencing", "water", "stock".
  3. Put the daily and weekly routines on repeat: checking water troughs, feeding, greasing machinery, weekly equipment checks.
  4. Add the seasonal jobs with dates, and set a reminder well ahead (a week or more) for anything that needs parts or a booking.
  5. Assign each job to a person. "Someone should fix the fence" is how fences stay broken.
  6. Take a photo of a broken fitting, a damaged fence line or a part number, and attach it to the task so a contractor or supplier knows exactly what you need. (Photo attachments are a Pro feature.)

Handling poor signal

Out in the paddock, signal comes and goes. TickOff keeps a copy of your tasks on your phone, so you can still see them, and tick jobs off, when you have no reception. Your changes sync once you're back in range.

Examples of what to put on it

Where TickOff fits, and where it doesn't

TickOff is a task list, not a farm management system. It won't keep livestock records, track movements or handle compliance paperwork. For those, use a purpose-built records tool or your usual system, and keep TickOff for the shared "who's doing what today" side of the farm.

The free plan covers up to three people; a larger family or crew needs Pro, which has no limit on members.

Common questions

Do the workers need to be tech-savvy?

Not really. They sign in once, open the list and tick things off. If a QR code at the shed gets them started, that's usually enough.

Can I see what got done last week?

Completed tasks stay in the list, and Pro can build a report of completed jobs across a date range, filtered by person or tag, that you can export.
